Helpful Tips Before You Go

  • Visa requirement: Most foreign nationals need either a valid Indian e-Visa or a transit visa to leave the airport — check the Indian government’s official e-Visa website before booking.
  • Best start time: Tours starting early in the morning (7–9 AM) or in the late afternoon (4–6 PM) tend to have lighter traffic and cooler temperatures.
  • What to wear: Light, breathable clothing is best; carry a light scarf or shawl to cover your shoulders when entering any place of worship.
  • Footwear: Wear comfortable, slip-on shoes — you will be asked to remove them at some religious sites.
  • Cash: You don’t need Indian Rupees for the tour itself (all included services are pre-paid), but bring some INR for monument entry fees and any personal purchases.
  • Payment: The full tour price is payable online in advance via credit card, debit card, or PayPal — you do not need to pay cash to the driver.
  • Air quality: Delhi’s air quality varies by season — it tends to be better in the monsoon months (July–September). If air quality is poor on your travel day, let us know, and we can suggest indoor or museum alternatives.
  • Dress code for temples: Cover your shoulders and knees when visiting any place of worship; remove shoes before entering; a scarf is sufficient as a head cover at most sites.
  • Street food: If you’re curious about trying Indian street food during the tour, let your guide know — they will take you to a vendor they personally trust for hygiene and quality.
  • Restrooms: Clean, Western-style restrooms are available at each major monument site; your guide knows exactly where they are and will take you there.
  • Solo female travelers: Our tours are completely safe for solo women; your professional guide stays with you at all times and handles all interactions with vendors and touts.
  • The Taj Mahal: The Taj Mahal is located in Agra, about 3 to 4 hours each way from Delhi — it is not possible to visit on a standard layover tour. We offer a separate Agra overnight tour if you have a longer layover.

What our customers say

Most Asked Questions by our Guests.

Is 6 hours actually enough to see anything meaningful? +

Yes — and many travelers are surprised by how much you can experience. With a 6-hour layover, you typically have around 3 to 3.5 hours of active touring time (after accounting for the 3-hour pre-departure check-in buffer). In that window, you can comfortably visit Humayun’s Tomb, stop at India Gate, and see the Qutub Minar. The itinerary is designed to be relaxed, not rushed — you’ll come away with a genuine feel for Delhi’s history and architecture.

If my layover is 6 hours total, how much actual sightseeing time do I have? +

A 6-hour layover means roughly 3 hours of touring time, since we need to return you to the airport at least 3 hours before departure for international check-in and security. A 7-or-8-hour layover gives you a much more comfortable window. That said, even a 4-hour active sightseeing block is genuinely enjoyable — we make every minute count.

How long does immigration and customs usually take at Delhi's airport? +

For most foreign travelers arriving at Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 3 (T3), immigration typically takes between 20 and 45 minutes during normal hours, and can take up to 60–90 minutes during peak arrival windows. Our driver waits for you regardless — we track your flight in real time, and we know when your plane lands, so we adjust your pickup time accordingly. You don’t need to notify us if you’re delayed in immigration.

Do I need an Indian visa or transit visa to step outside the airport? +

Yes — to leave the airport terminal and join a city tour, most foreign nationals need either a valid Indian e-Visa (tourist or transit category) or a visa on arrival (where applicable for your nationality). A simple airside transit does not require a visa, but you cannot leave the secure terminal without one. We strongly recommend checking the official Indian government e-Visa website before booking. If you are unsure, contact us and we will help you check your specific nationality’s requirements.

Where exactly will I meet my driver? I'm worried about getting lost in the arrivals hall. +

Your driver will be waiting for you at the arrival exit gate, holding a personalized name placard with your name on it. To ensure a smooth pickup, passengers are requested to inform us of the exit gate they will be using after landing. As soon as your flight arrives, we will also send you a WhatsApp message with a photo of your driver and the car’s license plate number, so you know exactly who to look for before leaving the terminal. If you have any difficulty locating your driver, you can call or text us directly using the number provided in your booking confirmation.

What happens to my luggage during the tour? Do I have to leave it at the airport? +

Your carry-on luggage stays inside the car throughout the tour. The vehicle is always locked and the driver remains nearby. You do not need to use the airport’s paid luggage storage facility. If you have very large checked bags, we recommend storing them at the airport’s Left Luggage counter (paid service, operated by the airport), but for standard cabin-size bags and backpacks, the car is perfectly safe and convenient.

Is it safe to leave my laptop, passport, and valuables in the car? +

Yes. Your driver stays with the vehicle while you explore each monument. The car is always locked when unattended. We recommend keeping your passport and travel documents with you personally at all times, but laptop bags, extra clothing, and other belongings are safe in the car.

Can we visit the Taj Mahal during a layover tour? +

Unfortunately, no. The Taj Mahal is located in Agra, which is 125 miles (about 200 km) from Delhi’s airport — roughly a 3-to-4-hour drive each way under normal conditions. Visiting the Taj Mahal and returning in time for a same-day international flight is not possible on a standard layover tour. We offer a separate Agra overnight tour for travelers with a longer stay. For a layover, Delhi has outstanding monuments of its own, including two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, that make for an equally memorable experience.

Can we do a drive-by tour without getting out of the car? +

Absolutely. If your layover is very short or you simply prefer to see the sights from the comfort of the car, we can do a fully narrated driving tour that takes you past India Gate, Parliament House (Sansad Bhavan), the Presidential Palace (Rashtrapati Bhavan), and the exterior of the Qutub Minar — all from your air-conditioned vehicle. You won’t be able to enter the monument complexes on a drive-by, but you will still see the iconic skyline of Delhi with full commentary from your guide.

Should we see Old Delhi (Shahjahanabad) or New Delhi on a short layover? +

For a 4-to-6-hour layover, New Delhi is strongly recommended. The monuments we visit — Humayun’s Tomb, India Gate, and the Qutub Minar — are all located in South and Central Delhi, much closer to the airport than Old Delhi.

Old Delhi’s famous sites, like the Red Fort (Lal Qila) and the Jama Masjid mosque, are further away, and the narrow lanes can be very congested, which makes time management unpredictable. Old Delhi is absolutely worth a visit, but it’s better suited for a half-day or full-day tour when you are not catching a flight.

What if there is a traffic jam? Will I miss my flight? +

We plan every tour with a mandatory 3-hour return buffer before your departure. Your driver monitors traffic conditions using real-time GPS throughout the tour, and we adjust the route and timing accordingly. If traffic is unusually heavy, your guide will shorten or skip the final stop to ensure you are back at the airport with a comfortable time to spare. In 10+ years of operating layover tours, we have never had a traveler miss their flight due to traffic.

Do I need to carry Indian Rupees (INR) for this tour? +

You do not need INR for anything covered under the tour inclusions — the driver, guide, vehicle, tolls, parking, and water are all pre-paid. However, you will need a small amount of INR for monument entrance fees, which are payable at each site. Fees are low (typically 40 to 600 INR per person per site). Most monument ticket counters now accept credit cards and UPI (India’s digital payment system), but we recommend having some INR on hand just in case. You can exchange currency at the airport’s arrival hall before meeting your driver.

Are there any hidden costs I should know about? +

No. The tour price covers everything listed under Inclusions — the vehicle, driver, guide, tolls, parking, water, and Wi-Fi. Monument entrance fees are excluded and paid separately at each site. Meals, personal shopping, and tips for your guide and driver are also not included, though tips are warmly appreciated. There are no surprise charges or on-the-spot cash requests during the tour.

Can I pay with a credit card, PayPal, or in US dollars or Euros? +

Yes — the full tour price is payable online through our secure payment link, which accepts all major credit cards, debit cards, and PayPal. You do not need to carry cash for the tour, and you should not pay the driver in USD or Euros. Paying online in advance is the simplest, safest option.

Is the car air-conditioned? +

Yes, always. All our vehicles are fully air-conditioned private cars and are cleaned before every tour. The car will feel comfortable the moment you step in — regardless of whether you’re arriving in a Delhi summer (when temperatures can exceed 104°F / 40°C) or a cooler winter month.

Is the car large enough for my family and our carry-on luggage? +

Yes. Our standard vehicles comfortably seat up to 4 passengers with standard carry-on bags. If you are traveling with a larger group or have extra luggage, let us know when booking, and we will arrange a larger vehicle (SUV or minivan).

Is this tour safe for solo female travelers? +

Yes, absolutely. Our tours are completely safe for solo women. Your licensed guide stays with you at every step — from the moment you exit the arrivals hall to the moment you walk into the departure terminal. We have served many solo female travelers from around the world. Your guide handles all interactions with ticket vendors, local touts, and security personnel, so you can focus entirely on enjoying the experience.

Is the air quality in Delhi okay for a day tour? +

Delhi’s air quality varies significantly by season. It is generally best from July through September (monsoon season) and good in January and February. It can be poor from November through January due to agricultural burning and cold weather trapping pollutants. If air quality is a concern on your travel date, we can offer an indoor alternative itinerary focused on museums and air-conditioned cultural spaces. Contact us in advance if you have respiratory sensitivities and we will advise based on the current forecast.

Is there a place to eat during the tour? Is it safe to eat street food? +

Yes. If your timing allows, your guide can take you to a restaurant that meets high hygiene standards and offers both Indian and Western-style food options. Clean, sit-down restaurants with Western-standard kitchens are available near all the major sites. As for street food, Delhi’s street food is legendary, but whether it’s safe depends on the specific vendor. If you’d like to try it, your guide will take you to vendors they have personally trusted for years. If you have a sensitive stomach or dietary restrictions, let your guide know, and they will steer you accordingly.

What is the dress code for visiting temples or mosques? +

For any place of worship — including temples, mosques, and Sikh Gurdwaras — you should cover your shoulders and knees, and remove your shoes before entering. Most sites provide headscarves for women at the entrance if required. A light shawl or scarf in your bag is the simplest solution. Your guide will remind you before each relevant stop.

What is the best time of day to start the tour to avoid heat and traffic? +

Early morning (7 to 9 AM) is ideal — traffic is lighter, temperatures are cooler, and the morning light is beautiful for photos. Evening tours starting around 4 to 5 PM are also very pleasant. Midday tours (11 AM to 2 PM) during the summer months can be hot, but the car’s air conditioning makes the transfer portions comfortable.

Are your tour guides government-licensed professionals, or just drivers who drop you off at the gate? +

All our guides are government-licensed professionals, certified by the Ministry of Tourism of India. They are trained in the history, architecture, and cultural context of Delhi’s monuments, and they stay with you at every stop — they do not simply drop you at the gate and wait in the car. This is one of the most important things that sets a professional layover tour apart from simply hiring a cab.

Will you help me with my e-Visa printout if I forget to print it? +

Yes. If you’ve forgotten to print your e-Visa or other travel documents, let us know when you land. Our guide can help you locate a print shop near the airport or assist you in understanding the requirements. Most Indian immigration officers now accept digital e-Visa confirmations on your phone screen, but check with us in advance to confirm the current practice.

If my layover gets shortened due to a flight delay, can I cancel or get a partial refund? +

Yes. If your layover is significantly shortened due to a flight delay and you are unable to complete the tour, please contact us as soon as possible. Our cancellation and rescheduling policy is fair and customer-friendly — we understand that flight delays are outside your control. Full details are provided in your booking confirmation.

If my tour ends at a different terminal than where I arrived, is the drop-off included? +

Yes. Drop-off at any terminal of Indira Gandhi International Airport is fully included in the tour price, regardless of which terminal you depart from. There are no extra charges for terminal transfers.

Can we visit hidden gems or off-the-beaten-path spots instead of just the main monuments? +

Absolutely. If you’d prefer a more unique experience, let your guide know before or at the start of the tour. Depending on your available time, they can include lesser-known spots — quiet courtyards inside the Humayun’s Tomb complex, the ancient iron pillar at the Qutub complex, or short detours through some of Delhi’s quieter historic neighborhoods. The itinerary is flexible and can be customized to your interests.

Can you pick me up from my hotel instead of the airport, or drop me off somewhere other than the airport? +

Yes. If you are starting or ending your tour at a Delhi hotel rather than the airport, please let us know when booking, and we will adjust the pickup and drop-off accordingly. Hotel pickups and drops are available and can be arranged for an additional charge depending on the location.

I had a 10 hour layover in Delhi and decided to book this private tour instead of waiting at the airport. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of my trip.
